Students will research one contemporary, ongoing issue in New York City. Through researching the history of this issue, as well as the popular opinions and perceptions surrounding it, students will choose a position to argue for or against in regard to this issue.

- Racial profiling/police brutality
- Homelessness
- Greenspace/park enhancement/cleanup/safety (a neighborhood park, the Gowanus Canal, Coney Island, etc.)
- Neighborhood Watches/community safety programs
- After-school programs for students/other public school issues
- Public transportation
- Cultural movements/social organizations that are working toward making issues like the above better (musical projects, community gatherings, youth programs, etc.)
