This assignment tested each groups skills in treatment planning. I was in charge of combining everything and creating the treatment plan in accordance with the guidelines below. This document will allow you to follow my critical thinking skills used in creating a treatment plan for a patient based on age, medication, and conditions.

Guidelines

This is a group project. Each group will consist of 5 participants determined by Prof. Dillon. Two groups will have 6 participants because of class size. Those groups will each have a patient with 3 systemic conditions in addition to Type III Periodontitis.

  • Each participant will gather info on at least one condition or medication telling how it affects the oral condition and treatment planning- presenting related references
  • The group leader will compile the final paper creating a DH Treatment plan based on all evidence presented regarding diseases, medication and Periodontitis Type III
  • The final compiled group paper along with each individual participant’s written input as described in the first bullet must be handed in. Individual participants who do not hand in their written input will lose 4 points off final class grade for lack of professionalism

Each group must determine which part each participant is doing and report to Prof. Dillon within one week after the assignment is distributed. The final compiled group paper will be graded as a group effort according to the Critical Thinking Rubric and is worth 5 points.

For Section 228 (Monday morning), this assignment will be distributed on 3/25/19 and must be handed in on 4/15/19 during the class period.

This assignment will be collected on the due date at class time. Late papers will not be accepted.

All patients assigned have Type III Chronic Periodontitis in addition to other systemic conditions.

Part I

  • Establish a Phase I Dental Hygiene Treatment Plan for the assigned patient
  • Prioritize the plan based on health status and actual or potential health problems of that patient. Consider medications and physical symptoms etc. that may lead to potential problems.
  • Establish a planned sequence of educational and clinical services based on the dental hygiene diagnosis
  • Include etiology, prognosis, and treatment alternatives wherever possible.
  • Discuss treatment plan modifications, wherever necessary.

Part II

  • Define each systemic condition and discuss treatments used and possible interaction or connection between the systemic conditions and periodontal disease.
  • Provide at least 2 references to existing evidence in the literature regarding the periodontal/ systemic connection for each disease
  • Information must also be provided regarding medications if relevant. Reference sources must be no earlier than ten years ago, except for classics.
