The Booker Sumner Center is committed to being politically active when it comes to fighting for Senior’s rights and increasing their benefits under the law. In particular, we are continuously lobbying to local politicians regarding more preventive health benefit options for low income seniors. This includes such programs as free health club memberships, scholarships for cooking and gardening classes, more covered medical screenings. We are tireless in our fight against age discrimination
Our political endeavors and goals are developed by the staff along with Seniors from the community who want to be politically involved. Political engagement is helpful to seniors suffering from isolation or ageism by getting them actively involved in changing the laws.
They also benefit from the laws that they endeavor to help change .
