While searching for different educational games, we came upon a couple of games that really didnā€™t help us with our ideas. So we tried searching for board games and also card games. We came upon some good board games, for example one of the board games that we thought was interesting was ā€œRisk: The Game of Strategic Conquestā€. Created in France by Albert Lamorisse and released in 1957. Its original game name was ā€œLa Conquete du Mondeā€. It was bought by Parker Brothers, which was renamed Risk and released in 1959.

Another board game that was helpful in our resource was the board game ā€œClue,ā€ Devised by Anthony E. Pratt from Birmingham, England in 1949. It is currently published by Hasbro, a toy company, and its U.S. publisher, Parker Brothers. Both board games gave us great ideas and helped us with a game we wanted to give a try.

Another game that really had an impact on helping us was the educational television show game ā€œHeads Upā€. Created by The Ellen DeGeneres Show and produced by TVOntario and aired on WBAL-TV in Baltimore, MD. The game heads up is a game just as the one we are interested in doing, but using an app on a smart mobile device. Itā€™s a game that has different categories and tons of ways to learn about those categories.

Then we found a card game that really pushed our ideas of the game we decided to do. The name of the card game was ā€œDirty Mindsā€. Made by TDC Games, Inc. in Itasca, Illinois. Itā€™s creators Larry Balsamo and Sandra Schaeffer created the game in 1988 and was released in 1990. The card game Dirty Minds really helped us put all our ideas together and come up with an educational game that people could learn about resource and advance their knowledge.

The name of the game we came up with is ā€œSecrets of the Sourceā€. The goal of the game is to spell the word source. There are two decks of cards, one deck having the answer in big bold letters with the clues on the bottom of the answer. Each card gives a total of three clues. Where each clue is a phrase based on the answer that the card has. The player would then have to guess the answer with the clues given to them. All clues are educational and helps the players with their memory. The next deck of cards are the wild cards, which are the letters that the players would need to spell source. Not only letter but cards that passes your turn, and make you lose cards to either the next player or back to the deck of cards. Players will not only have the chance to compete against each other but learn about sources they havenā€™t interacted with or just remind themselves of the sources they forgot. The first player to spell source is the winner. And after spelling source the player then get a chance to receive a database where they can use it for their educational work or school work. Much like Dirty Minds but instead of just learning random phrases and words, players will get an educational clues and the answer would be a sort of resource which will educate them. For example, one card would one clue of ā€œa lot of people use meā€ another clue would be ā€œI come in chromeā€ and the last clue would be ā€œI am a search engineā€. So the answer would be Google. This way the players will get the chance to know things about search engines, databases, and resources that they didnā€™t know. While the game seems to be an easy task, it helps players advance their knowledge and bring out what players know.
