On the first day of group presentations, the class was allowed to create their own groups.  The group consists of Jonathan, Daniel and Adonas.  Next, we had to choose a topic on what we were going to do our project on.  We decided to do a research game.  At this point it was all about brainstorming ideas on what we could possibly come up with.  There were many ideas mentioned, such as discussing video games that we have played on consoles or PC.  I believe the group was trying to find a game that we could get inspiration and a blueprint that we can follow in order to create our research game.

In this process we mentioned classic games such as card, and board games.  As we were discussing these games, and had a chance to be in the computer lab we would each look up games, and images we thought we could get some ideas from.

One of the first games we were discussing is the board game Clue.  In this game there are three card categories suspect, weapon, and room.  One card will be taken from each of these categories and placed in an envelope and that was the crime that has occurred.  Another game that was mentioned shortly after is a board game called Risk.  In this game one has to try and conquer whole continents and earns more armies as said in the Risk instruction manual.  We than tried to apply the some of the way and Risk was played and created to come up with our own research game.

The next step we took was to create a first draft of the game.  We did this by taking a piece of loose-leaf paper and cutting it up to create four piles similar to clue.  Instead of using the categories of clue, we changed them in order to fit a research game where each pile consisted of artifact, currency, creator and location.  Next, we tried to format the game similar to clue, but other ideas were still being discussed.

The next game we discussed was an app called, Heads Up.  This game can be used on a tablet or mobile device.  After it is installed, one places the device on their head, unable to see the answer.  The other person is able to see the answer then gives hints to the person holding the device in order to figure out what the answer is.  This app happened to be a top app on a few of the websites that was searched.

After discussing the game Heads Up, there was a game suggested called Dirty Minds.  In this game there were two sets of card decks.  One card deck was filled with letters to try and spell out the word dirty.  The other deck was filled with questions and answers so that if you get one right, then you were able to take a letter, or letters from the deck depending on how many attempts it takes for one to get the answer.  If you continue to get answers right, then that person or persons collects letter to try and spell out the word dirty.  This game seemed simple and I think the group believed the way the game was put together was a good blueprint to follow in order to create our research game.

After the game was chosen, then the group started to come up with some creative ideas such as Wikipedia being one of the websites, and could be used as one of the cards in our deck similar to Dirty Minds.  Since we now had an outline for our game, the next step was to come up with a name.  The name we chose was Secrets of the Source.  The way in which you win the game is by picking cards from one of two piles, similar to Dirty Minds.  Next a player tried to figure out the answer on the card with a list of clues provided by the opposing player.  With each successful answer, a player is rewarded with a card from the pile of letters to try and spell the word Source.

After we put together the game from the many ideas that were discussed in class, we then broke up the work load of our group presentation to each member.  We then put all of our work on the course website, while preparing for the day our group presents.
