About Me !

My name is Sheryl Chen, I am from China. I came to New York around 10 years ago. Same as most of the Chinese who believe they will have a wealthy and comfortable life in the United States, my parents decided to come to this country 22 years ago for thier American dream.   However, they feel disappointed after they came to this country because of language barrier and culture diversity.  Because of language barrier, many of my family members and friends are work in the restaurant.  They needed to  work 12 hours per day and 6 days  per week to support the family. After I arrived in this country, I realized it is difficult for immigrants to have a career in this country unless they go to school.  I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life to work in the restaurant, because I saw how hard the job was, so I decided to go back to school for a better future. One of my friend suggested me to study Nursing after I got my associate degree in Chemical Technology, because she thought nursing was a good career. In order to have “good career”, I chose to applied for nursing program in NYCCT. I was so happy that I made this decision to come to study nursing and so thankful for my friend who suggested me to go for nursing. Before I entered the nursing program, I didn’t have any ideas that relate to medical field. After I became a nurse, I felt satisfied when I was able to use my knowledge and skills to help others. As time goes by, I love my job more and I am very proud to become a nurse.
