Hi Class,
I posted two short stories in the “Readings” menu tab. One is by Kiran Desai, and the other is by Ha Jin.
For homework due Feb 19th:
• Read Chapters 1 and 2 in Steger’s Globalization (1-37).
• Journal 2: write up the following three parts on one single document, edit and proofread for clarity and mistakes, print it out, and bring it to class on Feb. 19th.
1. Read “The Captive” by Jorge Luis Borges and answer this question: how is this story about globalization? (200 words)
2. Read “A Good Fall” by Ha Jin and summarize it using our 4-part summary blueprint. (200-300 words)
3. Read “The Inheritance of Loss” by Kiran Desai and analyze it using the 5-part Critical Reading Tool. (200-300 words)
• Also: Find a story about globalization on your own and bring in a copy of it. You can find your story anywhere (book, newspaper, radio, online, gossip, film, etc.). Make sure to write down the exact source. Be ready to discuss your story with the class for about one minute (about 200 words).
Cheers,
Prof. Scanlan
