Updates, E-Waste, and Extra Credit Writing Assignment

Hi class,

First, we will have a Library Research Session on Monday, November 2.

Second, because of this Library Session, we will have to push the peer review date to Wednesday.

Third, we will discuss this extra credit assignment on Wednesday, but I wanted to post it today.

Background: My colleagues in Chicago, Montreal, and Toronto have a project called Techno-Trash that involves some critical thinking and writing on the topic of digital humanities and the problems of the digital world, and so I thought that we might have some discussions about the problem of E-Waste.

If you submit a story to Techno-Trash, I will give you extra credit in the form of one journal credit. We will have time during the next two weeks to work on this in our Lab section.

Family matters

Byrne park

This photo was taken on October 25, 2015. This is Byrne park and it is a wonderful setting. I chose to take this photo because of the fact that it was nice picture. I was walking home when this was happening. I noticed that in the park people were playing, then I look closer and realized it was Father, child play. most of the time it was dads playing catch with their sons and the rest were just happy families playing with one another. I look at this scene and think to my self they must really be lucky to have someone to call dad.

This Picture was taken October 15th in Amsterdam New York at an Amtrak train stop. I really liked the atmosphere and scenery. You could see the colors of the fall trees and it has a color effect as some of the things in the photograph, such as the train tracks and a few trees are in color, while the clouds are in black and white. I was in the middle of nowhere and the mood describes how I felt being far away from the city. The river is is in black and white with little reflections of the clouds.

Autumn:Nature’s beauty by Annfinee Solomon

 The falls

This photo was taking while walking to my house in the Bronx, NY, on October 17 in the evening. This photo is interest because it is a representation of nature indication that the season is changing, bringing forth the cold winter. As one examines the photo they can observe on right view that there’s a vanishing row of dark brown maple tree with reddish, yellow leaf hanging looses from the branches. The walk way under the trees is littered with the falling maple  deep crimson and  dried up leaves. On the left view of the photo one can observe a pine cone tree above a white, partly rusted 4ft iron fence, which entices the breeze with a fresh and intriguing smell. This  tree is a conglomerate of brown branches and reddish and green leaves.

Picture Taken: Belt parkway to John F. Kennedy International Airport, October, 17th, 2015

I took this picture on belt parkway on my way to JFK airport. I was going to drop my mother to the airport and because of my mood, which was sad and calm and i took that picture. what was cool is the effect is natural, somehow caught by my phone camera. The colors kind of tell the mood and it can tell the event by focusing on the plane and the description given so it can all be related and tell what is this picture about. The background is beautiful, It makes my picture look nice and interesting. The nature is a true beauty and it will make everything live we observe. I will really miss my mom and she has decided to go back to my home land and live there forever. 🙁

Primary Colors, Bronx, NY, October 17, 2015.

I took this photo in my bedroom around midnight. Out of all the photos I have taken, this one seemed more interesting to me because even though it looks very simple, it has a lot to say. I had just finished solving my Rubik’s Cube, and I had laid it down without thinking. Five minutes later, I look at the cube, and I notice that the three colors that are showing are yellow, red, and blue. Those colors made me remember learning the primary colors in my art class when I was younger. I also like how the stickers on each side of the cube look worn out, meaning; I have given this poor cube a lot of work. I took this photograph in the darkness because I like how the colors didn’t distort with the flash of my camera.

This view caught my eyes on my way home from a friends house. This picture was taken on October 18 2015. I was on N train going to Coney Island  and then the train got stuck. So I thought to myself mind as well just take a picture for class. This is the view I’m always use to seeing. Looking outside the window got me a little disappointed. I was expecting and nice view to enjoy but what i saw were train tracks filled with litter. Plus there was no color or warmth anywhere.  Just brown, gray and garbage scattered around everywhere i look.
