During the time  I have been in DH program and my clinical hours, I have had the opportunity to encounter different oral lesions. The most recent and interesting case was a 42 years old, African American woman , who presented bilateral leukoadema. She was a little worried when I told her about my findings, but  immediately explained to her that Leukoadema  is a benign condition that most likely represents a variation of normal mucosal appearance and  it is predominating in 90% of blacks like in her case. Throughout my experience of learning with  excellent faculties about Histology and pathology in the DH program, I was able to explain to her that histologically the epithelial cells appear edematous and swollen, with no evidence of epithelial atypia. Stretching or everting the buccal mucosa causes the white, filmy character to disappear. Since this condition is completely benign, no treatment was necessary.
