Community services

In May 2023 As part of a community service project, a professor organized a field trip to a public school in Brooklyn aimed at promoting oral health and healthy living habits among children. The trip focused on educating the kids and their parents about the benefits of proper oral hygiene and good nutrition.

During the field trip, a group of children went through a series of interactive activities focused on oral health, including brushing techniques, the importance of regular dental check-ups, and the benefits of fluoride varnish application. I also worked with the school administration to organize a presentation for parents focused on the link between oral health and overall health, emphasizing the importance of a balanced diet and regular exercise.

One of the key challenges of organizing the field trip was ensuring that it ran smoothly and efficiently. I used critical thinking and time management skills to coordinate transportation, organize the schedule, and ensure that the activities were engaging and appropriately structured. For example, I created a detailed schedule that allowed for maximum participation and minimized downtime, ensuring that the children remained engaged and focused throughout the day.

Overall, the field trip provided a valuable opportunity to promote oral health and healthy living habits among children and their families. It also helped me to develop important organizational and leadership skills, including critical thinking, time management, and problem-solving. By giving back to the community in this way, I was able to make a positive impact and contribute to the health and well-being of local children and families.

In April 2023 I also had the opportunity to give dental education to children in a public school in Brooklyn. I strongly believe that education is key to preventing dental disease, and I was delighted to share my knowledge and expertise with the next generation.

As a dental professional, I am committed to giving back to my community through volunteer work and community service. One of the most rewarding experiences I had was in 2017 when I volunteered with Canaima-Venezuela to provide dental services to people in need. During my time there, I was able to use my skills and knowledge to make a positive impact on the lives of others, and the gratitude and appreciation of the people I helped was truly humbling.

In addition to my volunteer work in Canaima-Venezuela, I also focused my academic efforts on serving
underprivileged communities. My final project in dental school centered on treating indigenous people, and it was the most rewarding experience I had throughout my academic career. I spent my last two semesters researching, planning, and executing a project that aimed to improve the oral health of indigenous people. Through this project, I gained valuable experience in working with diverse communities and learned the importance of cultural sensitivity in providing dental care.

I hope that through these examples, you will see my commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of others through dental hygiene. Thank you for taking the time to review my community service work.
