4/11 Oral Presentation Response (TL)

Green house emissions-
You said outside analysts projected better long-term growth for wind, solar, and electric vehicles than the government. Do you personally think that the government is purposefully misrepresenting growth projections, or that outside analysts are too optimistic in their outlook?

You mentioned Governor Cuomo and his aggressive energy policies. Does your article mention hydroelectric power?

Romel Smith – The Extremely Conservative Case

  1. If you were a lawmaker and had to create incentives to allow more investment into renewable resources (at the private or government level) what incentives would you offer?
  2. Do you think the fact that the United States has become path dependant on non-renewable resources has hindered the ability to move to renewable resources

Karran – WMD

  1. It’s scary to think that cyber warfare can be as destructive as a physical missile. Given how computers now control much of the world’s markets and trade. I think it’s important to raise awareness.

Presentation 4/11/19

WMD- Its an interesting concept to think of a cyber attack as a weapon that can create a massive issue for the general populace, it made me think of “Rocket peace” an AI that controls all the nukes to prevent launches creating deterrence. but is it the control or the act?
Renewable – The time we have been spending trying to shift to renewable is time consuming, we need to reach the point where it is profitable to motivate the big wigs into doing it. right now as it stands solar panels, wind energy, etc have all a very large investment involved at the start with a very small give back. in order to make t positive off the energy spend vs the energy received takes to long to be worthwhile just yet. we need to reach that point of having a positive kick back to move into the use of widespread renewable energy.

Rimel Smith ENG2575 E294 4/11

The presentation was about cyber war attack. The article questioned whether or not these were considered to be WMD(weapons of mass destruction). The cyberattack is not considered to be a WMD but it can cause damage. Hackers can attack a nuclear plant and launch nuclear weapons. The older generals in the army does not consider Hacking a weapon of mass destruction.

Defining a class of cyber weapons as WMD:

This topic is really interesting because it shows different points of view. Some people consider cyber weapons and hacking as a weapon of mass destruction because of what these actions can lead to such as destroying a power plant nearby wildlife or humans residing near such plant and exposing them to deadly amounts of radioactive materials. On the other hand, some people do not consider this type of weaponry as a weapon of mass destruction because it is not a physical weapon such as a missile. These are strong points of view that were brought up in this presentation.

The extremely conservative case for the renewable growth

The article this student chose is related to today’s events and it brings up how coal companies are more interested in the amount of money they are making with this type of energy creation compared to how renewable energies are really recent and they are not producing as much of a profit compared to the companies that have been here for hundreds of years producing oil and coal to produce energy.

Daniel Heeralall ENG2575 E294 4/11/19 Presentation

  • Karran Hiralal –>   Quite informative.I think cyber attacks should be considered as WMD because it is a means to an end. It is a tool that will result to devastating consequences. We should redefine what WMD means to us in current times.
  • Rimel Smith –> I agree with the presenter that we need to invest more into renewable energy. If only Trump can recognize global warming as a treat and focus on investing resources into renewable energy.

TianHeComments on Presentation 4/11/2019

WMD: The topic is interesting, and it’s kind of scary. But in reality, it’s not that easy to hack into DOD system. Furthermore, nowadays cyber security is getting more and more robust.

Energy renewable:  More and more technology and effort put into developing new energy renewable method, I think it;s still not enough, government suppose to do more. Otherwise one day the resource will be all gone one day, then we really have nothing to lose.

Defining a class of Cyber Weapons as WMD :

Cyber attacks on the US is a major concern. WMD throughout history and how its communicated to the population can be catastrophic. Although there is an alarm for  Cyber attacks there wouldn’t be a widespread public notice of it. The government keeps us questioning the  authenticity of these attacks.

Conservative case for renewable s:

Energy and how we use is the major theme here. Investments in renewable energy can benefit us, oppose to many other energy sources. Much data shows the evidence for this case. How this is funded is in question.

ShaunnaBudhram – ENG2575E294 – Presentation

Karran – Defining a class of Cyber Weapons as WMD – Is cyber attacks considered weapons of mass destruction? Per the article if you use Cyber attacks to stop attacks from the enemy is it really considered a weapon if the missile was was the enemy’s?  Everyday civilians can be at danger with Cyber Attacks.

Romel – EIA Outlook – Renewal Energy” – Solar energy will be the next big energy push but the growth for renewal energy will still grow but the rate of growth will slow down. My dad has solar panels on his house.
