“Rahami’s Intellectual Home

Bilal Rahmani’s intellectual home is a combination of both the school and the community of students and professors that attend there. Seeing that the other students were as eager to learn as him, it changed his entire perspective on the school and what it meant for him. Before he was set on the idea that no one in the school cared or put any effort to learn or teach, and that those kids were basically just attending the school and taking in what it has to offer.  He even mentioned that the school has come to shape the person he’s always wanted to become. He described the community as vibrant and loved that he could be engaged and more motivated in his classes which he didn’t feel before. It’s welcoming when he gets to discuss and debate over topics in each class and get different views, perspectives and more about countless topics. It opened him up more and he got into sharing his skills, attending and participating in clubs, helping out other students with tutoring and giving back to the community as well. The people, the place and the processes definitely played a big role in his best academic work at City Tech.

“Rahmani’s Intellectual Home”

As I would see it my thought process about Rahmani’s Intellectual home is him thinking he was being denied of his life but in reality, it was helping him open his eyes about school. I say that because he was denied everything he chose on what middle school and high school he went to. Yes, he wasn’t always his best and all that, but he did try. The problem he’s having is when he did try doing something good for himself he’d fail. In this constant denial, he felt trapped. When he set off for college he had an equivalent outlook on being trapped however later saw a more profound perspective. Starting CityTech college he went to get help choosing his classes and when he got his help he felt that the guidance teacher gave him the most uninteresting classes. When he got to his English class he believed he was the only one in the class going to answer the teachers’ questions. However, he was wrong a fellow student helped him understand to not worry about what people think of him and stay open-minded. Nevertheless, as soon as he started to see how college works he started to like it. He started joining clubs, helping his peers do well in school, joining contests, and generally helping out the community in CityTech.

My perspective of “Rahmani’s Intellectual Home” is that he thought he was very smart and a hard worker just because he tried his best, did all his assignments and even got a good score in the SAT’s. He would care about his classes, but when he failed in his class then he stopped caring and would make excuses for himself because he had an ego. You could say that middle school or high school was not his intellectual home mostly because he did not go to the school that he wanted. Even when he got to college he had the same idea as the other schools, go in, do your class and go home and do homework. He didn’t even go in with an open mind and at first the college to him was boring. Until a topic changed the way he thought of college in general and started to get more interested in his classes and in clubs he became more enthusiastic about sharing his ideas and receiving ideas. To me it seemed that he just needed to go in with an open mind and actually try new things and find something that he would be interested in and it happened just by a simple reading topic.

My perspective about Rahmani’s Intellectual Home is that Rahmanis’s  always believed that he was a very smart student. In “High School for Health Professions and Human Services” He always was a hard worker student,  but since he failed he never felt secure in education because he will always try his best in school but when he failed he never felt that interest in study and interacting with others. Rahmani started to see school as a place just to go and learn but he will always be aware of the time because he could wait to go home.  Staring City Tech college he was not sure if this was the right place to be but, In spring 2011 his semester started in english class in the classroom they were discussing a short story named  “Cat in the Rain,” by Ernest Hemingway, Rahmani’s belief that no one will understand the short story as much as he can so he decided to participate on a question that the professor did but a girl next to him was  called first and she gave her point of view of this short story  and he though that she was very inappropriate on her opinions to this story because he belief that Hemingway could never  possess such an immature trait, After listening to the teacher he couldn’t  believe that all his  judgments was wrong and he decided to participate more with his classmates and share his ideas. After this he vanished his ego and was more active in school and decided to interact more with education and listen to all opinions with a clear mindset his knowledge has become very important in his life.

Rahmani’s Intellectual Home

Rahmani did not like school , especially middle school since he got rejected from his first pick and thrown into “The High School for Health Professions and Human Services”. He considered himself very smart , proving it by recieving excellent scores on his SAT’s, and completing all his assignments, which made his ego increase, but even after working so hard he would fail at the end. So he would start to skip class and not care about school but at the end passed. Seeing how much Rahmani did not like school , saying that his intellectual home would in fact be City Tech will be a mistake, in the end it does become his intellectual home. When he began his spring 2011 English class, him and his classmates started to read and discuss the short story “The Cat in the Rain” by Ernest Hemingway. When his teacher asked the class to give their own interpretation of the story he raised his hands since he already had and answer and his ego was at the max, but when he was incorrect he was shocked ,in disbelief. He grew more comfortable in his English class his curtain of ego dissapeared , he was drawn into more discussions. Now he become more engaged in his classes, he grew into a new person and took school seriously.

What’s Rahmani Intellectual Home ?

Rahmani didn’t have friends, he would  go to class and hope that class would be over soon he would leave once class was over; he never joined any clubs . Rahmani’s Intellectual home consists of the story that was discussed by classmates and him ” Cat in the Rain”, by Ernest Hemingway. He thought that he was going to be the only student who would answer all of the teachers’ questions. Eventually, All of his classmates were engaged and everyone contributed and started shouting ideas with such excitement and speaking out, this made him jump into the discussion and began shouting out ideas like everyone else; this changed the way Rahmani thought about school, it changed him for good. He realized that city tech is a place where students are open to learning new things, Professors are eager to teach students so that they are successful, students feel engaged and eager to learn as well. Rahmani has now become the person that he would always wish to become; A whole new person that joins as many City Tech clubs, Participates in contests, gives his all, and who now shares his experiences with others sharing how he managed to be the person that he is now.
