About Place-based Learning

Place-based learning is integrated into the college mission. Review articles about place-based learning and explore field-tested place-based assignments designed and used by your colleagues.

Place-based Learning Logistics

In addition to off-campus field research visits, inviting guest lecturers and experts into your class (remotely or in person) can enrich the content and offer new disciplinary perspectives. Guest can also model for students how the concepts, topics, and competencies are , as well as model for students how City Tech faculty who guest lecture in in interdisciplinary courses should complete the guest lecture verification form. Contact campus public safety in advance so that your guest will be able to access the campus and your teaching space; consider current campus guidelines. If needed, request wifi access in advance for your guest. In any case, written acknowledgement of the guest lecture is appreciated. Involve your students in acknowledging your guest; make a short video or design a card together. There is no formal compensation fund for guest lectures, but there may be funds in your department or Dean’s office. Ask early and often!
