Four part Series

Part 1 of 4—HBP/H medication

There are a lot of meds available

Some to remove salt from the body.Water pills, help remove excess fluids from your body; which in turn reduce Blood Pressure. But there are many others.

Your doctor will prescribe the one(s) best for you.

Taking meds on time and regularly

Take all medication at the same time and every day.  There’s a reason for that; your bodies must have a certain amount of medication for the next 24 hours to work properly.  Too late and you leave yourself open, too soon and you will have too much medication in your body.

Where to go

See your doctor regularly, so that he or she can keep track of changes in your body.

Please return for part 2 in our series; when we will discuss “diet”.

The information here is meant as a tool to bring awareness.  Not to treat any illnesses.

A Snippette on HBP/H

What is HBP/H

But, before I run away with myself; let me explain what HBP/H is.  HBP/H is exactly what it sounds like.  It is when there is too much blood/liquid in our veins, and our hearts and other organs have to work extra hard to move all of that fluid through our “tiny” veins.  Anyone who has taken biology knows what happens when sodium/salt in introduced into any living cell; it removes water/fluids from inside the cell to the outside.  So, we eat a lot of salt, it dehydrates the cells & sends the water to our blood-stream.

Now-a-days, many people are on their water kick, and that’s a great thing to do for our health; but, many are drinking all that water because of extreme thirst, cause? you guessed it, too much salt in their diet; and where’s that water going to go?, you guessed it again; in their blood-stream.

Many of us want to continue eating and doing the same things we used to do when we were 17 year old.  We want to eat Turkey/ham & cheese on a hero or two dozen buffalo wings, (ever seen how much sodium in those?); as if we can still just burn it off by just standing up.  But there’s something we should keep in mind, if we live long enough, we will get old and we must modify our eating habits or our bodies will let us know, (in a not so subtle way), go quietly, resistance is futile.

Meds

Did you know that one of the HBP/H meds is a water pill? Wonder why they call it that and guess what it’s for.  The only problem is; there’s no going too far from a restroom.

Foods

We should also, keep in mind and always look out for this ingredient on our food labels or ask the restaurant servers if they cook with MSG Mono-Sodium-Glutamate.  It is one of the best flavor enhancers ever made; it taste good, but it’s killing us.

Loved ones

I have watched three people that I love dearly; suffer the effects of HBP/H, all of whom had strokes, some of them multiple strokes; because once you have had a stroke, your chances of having others are increased exponentially.  Two of them passed away from the onset of other strokes.  So, I feel I’m in a unique position to discuss this subject.

Sometimes, it take months, even years for the onset of another stroke and sometimes the victims survive for many years without another; but they must be vigil about maintaining their health.

We see ourselves

Some of us think “I am not a drunk, I don’t do drugs, there are so many risky behavior that I don’t engage in.  I’m fine.”  Yet, many are walking around with Blood Pressure levels of 250/160 or higher; that’s a ticking time-bomb.

A time-bomb waiting to go off, because a stroke doesn’t discriminate; It leaves its victims paralyzed and trapped in their own bodies, feeling a sense of self-pity, self-loathing and some of them, suicidal.

So, we need to take control of our bodies, our health or someone else will.

The Numbers:

What they mean

Example:   120/70

Systolic

The top number, which is also the higher of the two numbers, measures the pressure in the arteries when the heart beats (when the heart muscle contracts).
Diastolic

The bottom number, which is also the lower of the two numbers, measures the pressure in the arteries between heartbeats (when the heart muscle is resting between beats and refilling with blood).

110 over 60

That is the normal Blood Pressure of an adult human being, 110/60; but many of us don’t know that.  We walk around  unaware that our Blood Pressure is out of control and running a-muck; especially our young people.

The young victims

Most young people thinks that High Blood Pressure/Hypertension (HBP/H) is an old people sickness, because they hear their mothers, grandmothers, fathers, grandfathers and others complaining that they have (HBP/H) The fact of the matter is most of them developed the condition in their 20’s, 30’s or 40’s, but many did know because people in their 20’s and 30’s don’t usually get regular check-ups. So, (HBP/H); being the silent killer goes unnoticed until other things starts happening to our bodies.

HBP/H sometimes run a little higher, but should not exceed 130/80.  If it does, it should be immediately put in check; either by diet, medication, exercise and or by stress reduction.

Mission Statement

Mission Statement

My mission for this blog, is to reach as many people as possible; to bring awareness about the seriousness of High Blood Pressure/Hypertension (H/HBP).  To gather relevant information and make them available to friends of family, or family of friends.  I am writing to those with hypertension, those who may have family members with hypertension and those who are predispose to the condition; which of course is most of us.

It is also called “The Silent Killer”, because of the lack of initial symptoms it displays.  Most of us;, especially younger people, don’t even know that they have (HBP/H), but it is getting more and more prevalent, that even children are now being diagnosed as being Hypertensive.

This blog is a reminder to all of us, that we must take control of our bodies and our own health, or someone else will.  Know your numbers.
