Introduction

Hi my name is Lorince Pierre-Louis and this is my second year in City Tech. I go by the pronouns he/him/his. I’m Haitian and I was born and reside in Queens, New York. My major is Computer Engineering as my academic interests include improving my Math and Computer Skills, Software Engineering, Networking, Hardware Engineering, and graduating college with a Bachelor’s degree. My hobbies include exercising, watching and playing sports mainly basketball and football. I also enjoy watching anime and playing video games. It feels refreshing to be able to go back to college again even though its part in person and online, as we all know with the current situation the world is in right now.

Kobe Bryant fan says he's too sad to serve on Michael Avenatti trial

The picture that I’ve chosen is a picture of Kobe Bryant. Kobe is no longer with us but he is one my favorite basketball players that grew up watching. Kobe Bryant was a very hard worker as he was one of the greatest basketball players of all time. Whenever I watched him play my eyes we’re glued to the television screen as it was focused on that and nothing else. Kobe’s modus operandi was Mamba Mentality as he was all about focusing on the process and trusting in the hard work when it mattered the most. This something that I also believe in and take into heart as I go through life. Kobe Bryant is someone who I will never forget and will always have a special place in my heart.

Introduction: Maribel Matos

Hello everyone,

I hope that you are all having a wonderful start to the semester.

My name is Maribel Matos, although I do also go by Marbles or Maud depending on who’s addressing me. I personally identify with she/her/hers pronouns. I’m originally from the Dominican Republic, having moved to the United States when I was almost 3 years old. I grew up in Manhattan but moved out to Queens during the pandemic and have been enjoying the change of scenery so far. I’m majoring in Computer Information Systems, with a minor concentration in Business. The college process has been interesting so far, coming from a background where education was emphasized but not always helpfully supported by those around me. Switching to online education has been an odd experience as well, mainly due to it making things feel both more detached and altering how I have work to learn the material I’m being presented.

Pancake the Bearded Dragon.

I’ve chosen to share a picture of my bearded dragon, Pancake, who is no longer with us. I originally met Pancake when I was in my first semester of college, and feeling really confused and lost about the direction my life was headed in. I saw him at a pet store, near 125th st. He was the only bearded dragon left for sale in the store, and I was told that he had been a bit like the runt of his clutch. His siblings had bullied him and even nibbled off one of his toes. I related to that story instantly. He wasn’t for sale when I had come in, with the store manager telling me that someone who worked for the store had already set a claim on him but was waiting for payday to officially buy him. I was told to come back on a different day when they would have more bearded dragons in the store. I showed up on the intended day, and found out that the person who planned to purchase Pancake had backed out. I immediately scooped him up and took him home. Over the next three years, Pancake was my best friend. He would walk across my laptop while I would do school assignments, give me the stink eye from his cage when he didn’t get the treats he wanted, and would fall asleep in my arms like a spoiled reptilian baby. I miss him terribly. I hope that wherever he is in lizard afterlife, that he’s being shown the royal treatment.

Introductions

Hello my name is Alicia McLaughlin I’m in my a second year of college. I go by she, her regarding pronouns. I’m a New York native but I have traveled to different states.  One thing I really enjoy doing is writing poetry,  when I was in high school I would write, and share my poems with my friends,  mainly to see what they decipher from it,  and to gain a new perspective. I would probably consider that as one of my hobbies, as for my other hobbies I like to read, play video games, and listen to music on my free time.  One thing is I’m excited for this college experience I would like to take some fun and interesting classes.

This is a picture of a character called Android 18 from an anime called Dragon Ball Z. The reason I chose this picture is because Android 18 was my inspiration as a kid. I loved how she was powerful, yet laid back and distant. She moves to the beat of her own drum and is determined to get whatever job she has done. She was the first female character I’ve seen fight and adapt to the opponents she faced. I remember watching her fight against my other favorite character and how she defeated him. After witnessing that I was in pure shock and I was drawn to her character. Ever since then she always had a place in my heart.
