Let me introduce myself.

My name is Natallia Mikhelis. I am from Belarus. I am a senior student at Dental Hygiene Program NYC College of Technology. It was the two years of not easy, interesting, complicated, and sometimes funny journey.

I think that most of my classmates in the program had some experience working in dental offices, even before getting into the program they already decided on their further future professional development. My story is slightly different.

When I was in my country, I already received an education from the elementary school teacher and almost graduated from a Pedagogical University with a degree in psychology. However, it was time to move to America. Here I had a new country, a new reality, new challenges, and new opportunities.

Even after I got to college, I changed my mind about my major about three times. However, one day, I accidentally saw information about the college and the program. And something popped in my head at that moment: this is the place, where I will go. No wonder, people sometimes say that accidents are not accidental.

Even during the first semester, sometimes there were thoughts about whether I made the right choice, but doubts disappeared after the first grateful patient. The internship in Summer 2019, that took place in the beautiful office of the Rockefeller Plaza building, convinced me, even more, to go further and instilled confidence in myself and a desire to be more competent in an already consciously chosen career.

Here comes the Spring of 2020, which all of us have been waiting for. I am a few steps from a two-year dream, hard work, and sleepless nights. Despite everything, I did it. We did it together; in these two years, we came from strangers to friends or even a family, who helped each other and supported when it was difficult. Of course, a huge contribution was made by our Professors, who are not only unconditional professionals but also responsive people who understand how hard it was to achieve our goal.

I really hope that by my example, I motivated my daughter to study for a successful future even more.

Thank you for your attention!
