For our Public Health Community service, my classmates and I decided to reach out to a middle school and come in to provide nutritional counseling to 4th graders. We taught them how to read nutritional labels, how to read the food pyramid, how to identify healthy snacks and how to properly take care of their teeth.
We planned trips to a local community garden and helped the kids plant fruits and vegetables. During our last trip to the garden we had the children harvest the crops and we made fruits and vegetable salads to share among the class.
