Concept Maps are used for illustrating text, in a more graphic sense. General text material are written for reading and understanding is self evident. By  drawing and  making graphic hierarchies one can flush out  linear ideas.  The  advantage of graphical maps, similar to Tony Buzan”s mind mapping is that there is a synthesis of of pictorial and textual aids. When you combine ideas with illustration you can create specific movements or gestures not normally found in books or linear devices for texts such as books or signage.  Movements such as  implied words like jump or on top of  can be illustrated well with drawing and text. For Architecture or any design course, it is critical to have an  almost “Gestalt” effect for bot reader and writer,  in such that  one look or sweep of the page can  elucidate an idea.
