Clearly, the task of designing anything of any kind is made lighter by keen observation. In order to properly “mark out/layout” the plan for anything of permanence, careful consideration of all of the “moving parts” has proven to be paramount. As for the “Pier 41” research assignment, the attempt to glean background information about the larger site suggests that historical civil works, building construction policy as well as early municipal planning and development, are all factors to be considered concerning the “hardening” of the site. Although the involvement in such an effort would be summarily theoretical, it is good have some “hands-on” concerning future improvements and to be reminded of the chief place that research/”brainstorming” holds in the world of engineering. “…measure twice…, cut once..”
