Introduction

My name is Mercy Obuabang-Sackey, a student of the BSN program here in New York City College of Technology; here I also attained my Associate Degree in Nursing. I am currently working as a staff RN (6yrs) in a hospital setting precisely, the adult emergency department. I am also married with three beautiful children, two of them I had during my associate program. Although caring had always been my passion and still is, being a nurse was initially not my passion. However, with a lot of pressure from my mother who I remember from my childhood had always said, “I want to be a nurse” got me into pursing nursing with the saying that, “in this country (US) the health field, is a field where one is promised with getting a job right after graduation.” True to her words, I graduated, took my state board and the following month, got hired in a hospital setting where am still currently working. My love and passion for nursing in these past years have grown tremendously and as such my goal is to be a Certified Mid Wife and open a nonprofit clinic for the poor and less privilege. For me to obtain that goal, I need to climb up the ladder, so with excitement that my school was now offering the bachelors in nursing, I came back and God willing in two weeks I will successfully graduate and go forward to purse my Masters. What I like about nursing is the knowledge that one has to attain, and not only attain, but knowing how to utilize and incorporate the acquired knowledge with critical thinking and evidence-based practice in the care being provided.
