This special topics course offers an interdisciplinary approach to investigating our built environment using a case study focused on a specific place each semester. This course combines physical examination with information research and data collection using methodologies developed in multiple disciplines. Students from a variety of departments engage in on-site exploration and in-depth research of a location in New York City.

Realizing the value of the research experience at the undergraduate level, this project is committed to fostering research opportunities for City Tech students. Faculty and students can use this project as a place to share announcements about research opportunities, as well as a place to offer information about the experiences students and faculty have had in their research endeavors. A handbook on effective mentoring, developed by the Undergraduate Research Committee, is currently available for download.

The Honors Scholars Program at New York City College of Technology is dedicated to providing academically gifted students with the opportunity to develop their intellectual potential. Honors Scholars will participate in a collaborative community designed to motivate and challenge talented students and to foster a life-long dedication to learning. Honors Scholars will have the privilege to take part in special activities such as seminars, workshops, field trips, social events, research opportunities and enriched coursework for honors credit. The requirements for joining the Honors Scholars Program are a minimum GPA of 3.4 and completion of 16 or more credits.

Nakamura’s research group based on Mechanical Engineering Department in New York City College of Technology (City Tech), The City University of New York (CUNY). This laboratory is a professional research unit, not a student club, but opens to everyone who would like to conduct research on energy, environmental engineering (including ecodesign), and computing for sustainability. Also, it’s for people who wish to obtain Research and Development (R&D) skills required in a high-level position in the industry and academia. Excellent students can be recommended to become research assistants in order to publish a paper as a co-author, and have an oral presentation in an international conference. These research activities make students’ resume strong (R&D skills, publication, professional presentation) and will be a huge advantage for finding an engineering position or being accepted to graduate schools for Master or doctoral degree. If you are interested in joining EES Lab, please send Professor Masato R.
