ARCH 2410 ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN IV

ARCH 2410 ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN IV

The architectural process involved in designing small to medium size projects for specific building types. Scope covers initial research and analysis, program development, flow diagrams, schematic design, and massing studies through final presentation. Final presentations will include drawings and models reviewed by a design jury. There will be three projects and a final portfolio. Research papers, 2D and 3D drawings, and physical study models and final models will be utilized in program development, design and presentations. Each student will also participate in building one of the site models for the projects.

ARCH 1210 DESIGN FOUNDATION II SPRING 2013

ARCH 1210 DESIGN FOUNDATION II SPRING 2013

Architectural Design II: Foundations is the second course in the one year foundation sequence which increases the student’s ability to perceive visual cues, create visual design, formulate concepts, and render ideas in two or three dimensions. Students will use a combination of hand and digital skills to aid in the creation and interpretation of three dimensional objects and space, and the delineation of the same using standard projection systems.

ARCH DESIGN VII URBAN DESIGN

ARCH DESIGN VII URBAN DESIGN

This advanced design course covers a range of urban and architectural design issues. Students explore both the theoretical and pragmatic aspects of design applied in an urban environment. This course incorporates previous studio and lecture coursework to tie together topics of urban planning, architectural design, environmental sustainability and historic preservation. Using New York City as an urban laboratory, there are three research assignments and two design projects, varying in focus, size and complexity. Students address developing programs, the design of open public space, massing, open private space and the analysis of larger scale projects. Students work in a variety of formats: individually, in pairs, and in groups. Hand drawing, computer drafting and rendering, as well as physical and electronic modeling will be utilized for presentations

FALL 2015 ARCH 1191 VISUAL STUDIES I

FALL 2015 ARCH 1191 VISUAL STUDIES I

Visual Studies I is taken in tandem with ARCH 1110: Architectural Design I: Foundations to introduce the language of architectural representation and visualization, providing students with the techniques and skills to perceive visual cues, make aesthetic evaluations, translate information into graphic representation, create visual design, and formulate and render concepts in two or three dimensions. This course introduces basic skills for the manipulation of freehand and digital images, models, and data, and includes an introduction to computer systems,
