Internship in Communication Design (Asynchronous) Assignment to field work/study situations of approximately 15+ plus hours per week at a graphic arts-related internship site approved by the department internship director. Sites may be in areas such as advertising, printing, corporate communications or publishing. Students keep a log/journal to be shared in group seminars/discussions. Supervision is by faculty and by the job supervisor. Students will be required to keep a learning journal of their internship in the form of a blog using Open Lab.

User Experience (UX) Design is an essential component in developing websites, applications, and any other type of product intended to be used by people. This course examines the leading concepts of user—centered design through readings, discussions and assignments. Practical concerns include evaluation of technology needed to create or maintain websites; and exploration of a step-by-step process for creating products using flow charts, wireframes and prototypes. Students will also gain an understanding of issues surrounding usability on the Web, knowledge management and Web strategy.

This course is an introduction to the basic components and practices of pre-production, production and post production methodologies for content creation in commercial video and film. Students will learn the basics of all stages of production for content creation. The course will explore modes of communication such as commercials, public service announcements, fictive works, documentary and journalism. Students will analyze the fundamental principles of film and television communications with emphasis on examining the interaction of design and technology. Post-Production exercises with software such as Adobe Premiere and Adobe After Effects will be an integral part of the course. These assignments demonstrate proficiency in pre-production and production of content for film and video.

COMD 1112 DO16 Digital Media Foundations Spring 2022

This course reflects a mix of creative and academic practice to build critical thinking and imagination within the framework of today’s technology, including color theory, design and production terminology, reproduction processes, file formats and substrates. The students will upload their projects on their own ePortfolio, a video with its screenplay, a design for online and print, and their research papers. Lectures will provide students with a historical perspective of the media field as well as discussing current practices and future trends.
