MUS1210 Musical Styles, FA2015
Basic elements of musicâpitch, tone color, rhythm, melody, harmony, form and othersâare studied first. The study of musical elements is followed by a chronological survey of music style periods, focusing on the relationship between music and narrative. Major composers and their musical contributions to Western civilization including symphonic, choral, chamber and operatic compositions in each period are covered.
MTEC3230, Mixed Reality for Immersive Worlds, SP2018
This course will explore the new frontier of virtual, augmented and mixed reality across different market sectors. Students will experiment with designing and developing game-based and interactive projects employing AR, VR, wearables, IoT, and machine learning for mobile, web and console environments. Students will learn the fundamentals of Unity development, 3D modeling, stereoscopic perception and experiential design in the context of storytelling and content creation specific to these emerging forms. Students will work in small teams on collaborative projects with the latest head-mounted and sensor technology.
ENT 4900/4901 Internship F2017
For ENT Majors: work experience at a professional scenery fabrication shop, rental/supply house, off- Broadway theater, or any related industry organization approved by the adviser. For Emerging Media Tech Majors, work experience at a design firm, media electronics firm, media software firm, robotics firm, entertainment or media production firm, or any related industry organization approved by the adviser. This will serve to bridge the studentâs academic and commercial careers by giving the him/her professional work experience and industry contacts before the end of the senior year. Each student will keep a log/journal to be shared in group seminars. Supervision will be by faculty and a manager at the internship site. Prerequisite: ENT 4410 or ENT 4450 or ENT 4470 or ENT 4480 or Pre- or corequisite: MTEC 3800
ENT3320, Technical Production (Games/VR), Fall 2016
In this course students will work together in small design teams (designers, developers, modelers, storytellers) to concept, design & develop short game-based VR experiences in collaboration with a real world partner. Students will become familiar with Illustrator, Photoshop, Maya & the Unity Game Engine, and learn how to port to the Oculus Rift. Source Image: Unity3D
MTEC 3175, Game Design & Development, Fall 2017
This hands-on studio course will focus on the creation of innovative workable prototypes exploring expressive forms of gameplay using a variety of multi-media approaches, methodologies and materials. The aesthetics of game design, including asset and character development, level design, game play experience and delivery systems will be covered. Supplemental readings on the complex interplay between story and game will be explored to analyze effective narrative devices and game mechanics. The class will involve lectures on game theory, design exercises and in-depth analysis of works across commercial, art & social change sectors.
