MAT 1630 Introduction to Computational Science, SP2020
A project-based introduction to computational thinking and problem solving. Covers a wide range of topics, including data visualization, statistical techniques, simulations of dynamical systems, computational techniques to understand data, using regression to fit models to data, as well as an introduction to some more advanced topics: Monte Carlo simulations, optimization, dynamic programming, image processing, natural language processing, geospatial data analysis and current data science.

We will examine the use of photography for aesthetic, documentary, and “scientific” purposes, stylistic shifts in photography related to aesthetic concerns, and varying interpretations of subject matter based on social and cultural concerns at specific moments in history. We will also consider the relationship between photography and the visual arts in general, which culminates with the primacy of photography as a medium by the late twentieth century.
2017 Fall – MAT 2071 Proofs and Logic – Reitz
This course is designed to prepare students for an advanced mathematics curriculum by providing a transition from Calculus to abstract mathematics. The course focuses on the processes of mathematical reasoning, argument, and discovery. Topics include propositional and first order logic, learning proofs through puzzles and games, axiomatic approach to group theory, number theory, and set theory, abstract properties of relations and functions, elementary graph theory, sets of different cardinalities, and the construction and properties of real numbers. MEDU1010 Foundations of Math Ed, FA2017
This course examines the historical, philosophical, and sociological foundations underlying the development of American educational institutions. The role of the schools, the aims of education, diverse learners, the mathematics curriculum in New York State, legal principles that affect education, and the role of state, local, and federal agencies will be emphasized.
