Hello all! My name is Shaiwattie but I also go by Sha. I am a design student currently in the advertising track. Before I was introduced to graphic design I practiced fine arts. I began painting with acrylic and started to explore other mediums as time passed. I was introduced to graphic design in high school and was very eager to learn it so that I would eventually integrate fine arts into graphic design.
This site is designed to help you find fieldwork/study situations of approximately eight hours per week at an internship site approved by the Department Internship instructor such as an advertising agency, graphic design firm, corporate design office, publications art department, photography or illustration studio, TV or multimedia production company. Students will be required to keep a learning journal of their internship in the form of a blog using Openlab. A portion of the class will be devoted to presenting and sharing experiences with classmates. Students will learn how to assess their talents, update their resume, and promote themselves and their work through social networks. Students will be required to setup and maintain at least two social media networks such as: Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest. The instructors for this class are there as mentors if you have not yet found an internship before registering for the course. However, the instructors do not find an internship placement for you. It is your responsibility to find a position that fits your personal career path and help you transition to full time employment upon leaving the halls of CityTech. Ideally, you will use this site to find an internship the semester before taking the COMD 4900 class.
This is the introductory course in American Government, with the main focus on the national level but some attention to state and local levels as well. This OpenLab site contains course materials as well as links to news sites and a discussion board to exchange ideas. Please keep disagreements friendly, and please keep in mind that our main purpose is more to analyze than to react and fume.

This course will explore studio photography as a means to communicate ideas. Students will learn to use lighting to transform subject matter into metaphor, mood and meaning as well as how to develop visual coherence within a group of images. Finding solutions to problems of abstract, conceptual, expressive and applied character, with increasing awareness of the range of properties of black and white and color. Identifying the characteristics, physical properties and psychological effects of black and white and of color for visual expression and practical graphic application.

This purpose of this assignment was to show our understanding of transparency. I had to created a composition that consists of various elements. The assignment called for three dashed, three dots, one line, one circle, one triangle, one square and one arch. They had to be arranged so that they overlap. After arranging the elements I had to figure out what colors I would use. For my first composition I decided to paint the biggest elements all primary colors. I would then the smaller elements secondary colors. In order to show transparency in where the colors overlap we had to mix the paints to get the right value.
After finishing my first composition, it was bought to my attention that the yellow circle was too overwhelming to the whole piece. It was then suggested that I change the color to a more earthy or dull tone of yellow. I also changed the composition because two of the dots were completely covered so the true color of the element wasn’t present. After applying those changes, I noticed a huge difference and the piece looked more professional and neater.
This is the first project that as assigned for this course. This assignment was fairly easy. We had to use lines to show movement. I came up with several ideas on how I was going to do this. I considered the placement, weight and spacing of the lines. As far as the movement aspect of the project I thought of waves. Waves are a representation of constant movement and so I thought that was what was best for this. At first I drew the waves horizontally but after looking at it I saw that it was boring and predictable. So I had to change that.
I then drew it diagonally and it looked a lot better. For the spacing, I kept it all the same between each line. There is only two distinct weights of lines in the project. The heavier weight was be where the wave is. In the end I thought that project was successful. During the critique of my project my professor didn’t feel that that was the strongest way to represent movement and suggested that I had created a more random movement of the wave.
The purpose of this assignment was to understand figure/ground images. There was a lot of preparation for this project which caused it to be very time consuming. It was instructed that we gather rubbings of various textures. A fellow classmate and I went around the whole campus and beyond that to gather these rubbings. I came back with four pages of rubbings and unfortunately only one of them was approved for use. I would say that this was the most frustrating part of this project. We needed a total of twelve rubbings and it was taking a very long time to get them.
When I finally got twelve rubbings I was ready to continue onto the next step. What was also frustrating about this part was that I was very confused on how I was suppose to transfer my tracings. But after my professor was able to explain it into great detail I eventually got it and proceeded further. For this project we created a guide on how we interpret the figure and ground for the final piece. I found this to be very helpful. In the end I would say my piece came out successful.
