COMD2327 D188 Ty­po­graphic De­sign II, FA2016

This course in­tro­duces a va­ri­ety of basic lay­outs and for­mats, build­ing tech­ni­cal and prac­ti­cal flu­ency in set­ting and work­ing with type for both print and screen. This course fur­ther ex­plores top­ics learned in COMD 1167 Type and Media, such as type­face se­lec­tion and the use of the ty­po­graph­i­cal grids. Prob­lem-solv­ing for most com­mon ty­po­graph­i­cal prob­lems is dis­cussed.

COMD 2330 Digital Photography

COMD 2330 Dig­i­tal Pho­tog­ra­phy

This course will ex­plore the foun­da­tional con­cepts of light and ex­po­sure in pho­tog­ra­phy. Stu­dents will de­velop vi­sual lit­er­acy as well as fram­ing and com­po­si­tional skills. Stu­dents will be­come ac­quainted with a wide range of con­tem­po­rary pho­tog­ra­phers and gain an un­der­stand­ing of how pho­to­graphic style trans­forms sub­ject mat­ter into mean­ing. Using pro­fes­sional light­ing equip­ment and cam­eras, the stu­dent will gain hands-on ex­pe­ri­ence cap­tur­ing dig­i­tal im­ages in the stu­dio as well as on lo­ca­tion. Stu­dents will also learn pro­fes­sional meth­ods and soft­ware to man­age, process and print dig­i­tal im­ages.

The course will focus on busi­ness let­ters, memos, min­utes, process pa­pers, and re­ports.” Eng­lish 3771, Ad­vanced Ca­reer Writ­ing, will pro­vide you with the op­por­tu­nity to im­prove your abil­ity to write busi­ness doc­u­ments through ap­plied study and cri­tique. You will de­velop the knowl­edge, skills, and processes nec­es­sary to com­pose doc­u­ments under con­straints typ­i­cally found in the work­place. You will be eval­u­ated through­out the process of re­search­ing, or­ga­niz­ing, writ­ing, re­vis­ing, and pre­sent­ing your doc­u­ments.

Stu­dents learn basic ty­pog­ra­phy and page as­sem­bly tech­niques in­clud­ing el­e­ments, mea­sure­ments, fonts, set­tings and con­fig­u­ra­tions, proof-read­ing mark-ups and cor­rec­tions, al­tered file nam­ing con­ven­tions and stor­age or­ga­ni­za­tions. The course also em­pha­sizes the proper use of key­board con­trols and the re­la­tion­ship of type to page as­sem­bly. Stu­dents learn to use in­dus­try stan­dard soft­ware such as In­De­sign on the Mac­in­tosh op­er­at­ing sys­tem. In ad­di­tion there will be an em­pha­sis on stu­dent mas­tery of in­dus­try ter­mi­nol­ogy. 2 class hours, 2 lab hours, 3 cred­its
