A his­tor­i­cal analy­sis of the city’s in­fra­struc­ture, real es­tate de­vel­op­ment, mu­nic­i­pal plan­ning, or­di­nances and key build­ings using the com­par­a­tive method. The class will trace the course of ar­chi­tec­tural his­tory from the vil­lage to the pre­sent role of the city as the com­mer­cial and cul­tural hub of the na­tion. This course will stress the dy­namic so­cio-eco­nomic de­ter­mi­nants emerg­ing as a re­sult of im­prove­ments and growth in tech­nol­ogy, trans­porta­tion, in­fra­struc­ture, real es­tate, com­merce, hous­ing and recre­ation.

A historical analysis of the city’s infrastructure, real estate development, municipal planning, ordinances and key buildings using the comparative method. The class will trace the course of architectural history from the village to the present role of the city as the commercial and cultural hub of the nation. This course will stress the dynamic socio-economic determinants emerging as a result of improvements and growth in technology, transportation, infrastructure, real estate, commerce, housing and recreation.

Adaptive Reuse Studio

A study of the basic ma­te­ri­als of con­struc­tion as well as the the­ory and prac­tice of build­ing tech­nol­ogy. The course will in­clude in­ves­ti­ga­tion of the as­sem­bly of build­ing com­po­nents and meth­ods of con­struc­tion while de­vel­op­ing pro­fi­ciency in both ana­log and dig­i­tal draw­ing tech­niques, and pro­fes­sional level con­struc­tion draw­ing. Pre­req­ui­site: ARCH 1130 with a grade of C or higher or ARCH 1231 with a grade of C or higher; Pre- or coreq­ui­sites: ARCH 1112 and MAT 1275 or higher Equiv­a­lent to old course ARCH 1230

A study of the basic materials of construction as well as the theory and practice of building technology. The course will include investigation of the assembly of building components and methods of construction while developing proficiency in both analog and digital drawing techniques, and professional level construction drawing. Prerequisite: ARCH 1130 with a grade of C or higher or ARCH 1231 with a grade of C or higher; Pre- or corequisites: ARCH 1112 and MAT 1275 or higher Equivalent to old course ARCH 1230
