The storyboard is the visual version of the script. It consists of a number of panels that show the visual action of a sequence in a logical narrative. The storyboard is used as a tool for production or to assist in the selling of ideas to clients. The emphasis in this class is on story, idea and development. Students will design and present storyboards for topics including commercials, film and television titles and video presentations.

This interdisciplinary course examines science fiction texts from a physics perspective, focusing on both the long and short-term ability of science fiction to inspire and give ethical boundaries to otherwise abstract modeling of theoretical physics. In turn, the course will also demonstrate how the field of physics historically informed the development of science fiction and culture. Significant themes and trends in the futuristic worlds of science fiction, such as space exploration and nanotechnology will be discussed alongside the ways that private industry, government, and global scientific communities approach the politics of envisioning the future.

Visual language does not use words, it uses elements as ideas understood by seeing, responding, recognizing and interpreting. Design principles govern the way visual elements are arranged. Color is a core topic of study as well as an element of design; its behaviors and attributes act as a major influence on perception and emotion. This course uses theory and practice to develop working methods and content. Solving problems as a process begins with research and comparisons of visual styles, trends, masterworks, and cultural influences. The development of visual criteria begins with sketching and representing ideas, articulating and presenting concepts, critical thinking as writing and speaking. Presentation, and methods of working are developed as skills and an output of several projects in a portfolio, in hands-on and digital media.
