Paper Model of the Hubble Telescope

Michelle Marcus Intro to Astronomy Final Project- Paper model of the Hubble Telescope The process of building the paper model of the Hubble Telescope was a long and slightly difficult process. The building part of the process wasn’t necessarily difficult, but more time consuming. The directions and description says it can take anywhere from 4-8 hours. I don’t know exactly how long it took to finish because I did it in small amounts of time spaced out over a week and a half. I personally think the most time consuming part was cutting out all the pieces. There were a lot of pieces and tiny precise angles and triangles verses long straight cuts, which are usually easier and faster to do. The required materials called for ‘sharp scissors’ and the optional materials said ‘sharp craft knife’ and a cutting board. I can honestly say that cutting with a scissor for those tiny angles would have been very difficult and not as affective as appose to using an X-acto blade, which is what I used with a cutting board, thankfully. After taking Scenic Design classes as a theatre major (at another college), this type of model building came a lot easier to me. Unfortunately, I did not have enough time to sit down and do it all in one sitting, or even two sittings, which is more preferred. I think if I had, I would have enjoyed the process a whole lot more, but that isn’t to say I didn’t have any fun building the model. I did enjoy it a lot and I am proud of the outcome.
