Drawing
My name is Mengxin Gao. I am a traditional Asian girl. My hometown is in Fujian, China. As Chinese, I am proud of our food history. In China, the most popular hobby for people is eating, so I like to eat. Noodles, rice, sushi, BBQ, etc, all are my favors. I like to watch anime. I attracted by those anime. I often draw a lot of characters, and I imagine the plot about them. Sometimes I will draw the character that I just saw on a cartoon. Sometimes I will create my own characters.
My major is advertising design because I like drawing and create the image that from my own, and create the idea that comes through my mind. In my free time, I like to draw pictures with classical music. It gives me enlightenment to my artwork. My goals are to be a designer because I love the sense that I feel when I add color, also to be a designer is my a goal I have had since my childhood.
My Courses
This course focuses on further developing of language and academic writing skills. Students will learn how to brainstorm for ideas, outline, draft essays and revise. You will learn how to develop thesis and topic sentences.
English Composition I, building real-time, real-life skills for writers who want to make an impact on the world and make themselves heard. Revision, creative self-expression, and the courage to meet new challenges in the Information Age comprise our keystone. Every person in class is a scholar in residence, their voice unique, their ideas respected.
Three Dimensional Design COMD #3292 D222
Principles of three-dimensional design. Course covers an analysis of form and space. Topics include: hollow forms both geometric and organic; architectonic organization of space; light and shadow; geometric solids; the modular unit; form and structure in nature; linear forms with membranes; movement. Applications to packaging, architecture, sculpture and environmental design and graphics. Materials and inherent properties governing their use in form and space.
This basic design and color theory course explores graphic communication through the understanding of the elements and principles of design, as well as the design process, including idea development through final execution. This is a course in visual literacy and the design process: How we see, how we analyze the effects of our vision, and how we craft a design that will have energy and content. All projects will include thumbnail sketches, discussion and research. A weekly scrapbook will be kept. Media used are paint, paper, ink, pencil, ruler, knife, glue, and digital software for expressing graphic ideas. Numerous critiques will take place throughout the course and studentsā active engagement in group discussion will play a vital role in establishing an atmosphere of collaboration and shared learning.
COMD 1257_Typographic Design D194, FA18
A variety of basic layouts and formats are introduced, building technical and practical fluency in setting and working with type for both print and screen. This course further explores topics learned in COMD1127 Type and Media (Previously COMD 1167), such as the typeface selection, and the use of the typographical grids. Problem-solving for most common typographical problems are discussed.
