Melissa Mares is a self taught artist who specializes in oil painting and is an aspiring tattoo artist from sunny California. Currently, she is living in Brooklyn, NY and a student attending CUNY, she is pursuing her passion for art and learning new artistic techniques that will help further her career. Her work is deeply inspired by the mystical world and goddess energy, which she draws upon to create pieces that are both enchanting and powerful. Melissa’s artistic style is influenced by art nouveau, renaissance, hyper realism, and her paintings are characterized by their intricate details, rich colors, and dreamlike quality.

As an aspiring tattoo artist, Melissa is excited to merge her passion for painting with the art of tattooing, creating unique and inspiring pieces that reflect her love of magick and the divine feminine. Through her art, she hopes to connect with and inspire others to explore their own creativity and spiritual energy. Melissa is always exploring new techniques and mediums, constantly pushing the boundaries of her own artistic capabilities.

Waking up one day regretting that I did not try a career in the art field and not traveling enough.

__21.__Where would you most like to live?
I am living there now, in Brooklyn, NY. It has been my dream ever since I was a kid. Why? I have no idea but I’m here now.

Using dSLR cameras, professional lighting equipment and software, students will explore fundamental concepts of light, exposure, and composition in order to develop the ability to control photographic style to create visually engaging images.

COMD1100 Graphic Design Principles 1, Spring 2023

This basic design and color theory course explores graphic communication through the understanding of the elements and principles of design, as well as the design process, including idea development through final execution. Students develop basic skills in two dimensional design, color and content creation while employing the design process of research, sketching and experimentation. Communication designers use the concepts explored in this course in disciplines such as advertising, graphic design, web design, illustration, broadcast design, photography, and game design.

COMD1112 Digital Media Goetz Spring 2023

This course introduces students to core concepts in the graphic communications field including typography, color theory, design and production terminology, reproduction processes, file formats and substrates. During the semester, students will complete three pages of their own ePortfolio web site. Lectures will provide students with a historical perspective of the graphic communications field as well as discussing current practices and future trends.
