ARCH3590 Introduction to Computation and Fabrication Spring 2014

ARCH3590 Introduction to Computation and Fabrication Spring 2014

This course, taught by Prof. Leonhardt and myself, is an introduction to digital fabrication. It will explore the qualities of materials such as wood, concrete, and plastics in the context of computational design and digital fabrication thinking and techniques. Projects will provide students with experience in the use of a variety of tools, equipment, concepts, and emerging digitally-driven technologies, including parametric rule-based design, subtractive fabrication, assembly techniques, and iterative design processes

LIB 1201 – Research & Documentation for the Information Age – Section 9952

LIB 1201 – Research & Documentation for the Information Age – Section 9952

In this course we will explore issues in research and documentation for text (in print and online), images, sound, and multimedia. You will investigate where information comes from and how it is organized in both traditional and emerging media. We will examine the ethics of information use and determine how to critically evaluate sources. Throughout the course, you will create and present research and documentation projects using traditional and emerging media and technologies. This is a writing-intensive course. You should expect to spend 4-6 hours outside of class time preparing for class each week.

Disaster Recovery and Resilient Design in Coney Island

Disaster Recovery and Resilient Design in Coney Island

The goal of this research is to provide a sustainable and resilient design solution that would accommodate the needs of disaster victims as a short term function for the Coney Island community, and on the long term as a communal space that would not only compliment the Coney Island Area, but also protect it during a storm surge. The following issues will be addressed more specifically as a basis of this research: Establish which areas in the Zone A region are developable or not Investigate the use of Shipping Container homes for immediate disaster relief, the various methods they could be used and the infrastructure needed for delivery. Investigate the History of Coney Island and potential designs to improve the local economy and touristic quality of the area. Investigate and establish various disaster relief methods including existing and ongoing projects worldwide. Investigate resilient and sustainable methods and materials in the design and construction of the new and alternate infrastructural and communal development of the Coney Island Area. This research initiative is a product of the efforts and contributions of the following students: Zakarya Samih, Jefchy Rojas, Jonathan Hernandez, Osmany Cabrera, Zachary Mcsween, Raymond Jimenez, Erika Tobbs.

ZineTech

ZineTech

Our project proposal for documentation is to create a Zine-like webpage where Citytech students would be able to post any ideas freely. This would not only include writings but any art form such as painting, and drawing. Three sub-pages would be created: social, writing and art. The social sub-page would allow students to share daily events or ideas in a blogging form. The writing would include any students writings such as poetry, essays, projects, and short stories. Anything that they want to share without fearing judgement. The art sub-page would contain paintings and any other art form images such as photography.
