A study of communication designed to increase understanding and control of language on both the individual and social levels. Class work includes reading and discussion of elements of semantics and psycholinguistics and guided practice in effective thinking.
ENG1142 Introduction to Poetry Writing Spring 2022
Students practice the craft of writing effective lyric, narrative and experimental poems, studying poems by accomplished poets and producing poems of their own in a seminar and workshop setting. Key concepts and skills include observation and description, the use of persona, imagery, metaphor, connotation, sound, line breaks, structure in poetry, syntax and grammar. The course incorporates a variety of cultural perspectives in the theory and practice of writing poetry.
LAW1201 Legal Research I SP2020
Three credits; prerequisites are LAW 1101 and ENG 1101; LAW 1103 is a pre- or corequisite. A working knowledge of the law library is presented, including practice in finding statutes, cases and administrative regulations. Students are taught validating, and gain experience in using legal encyclopedias, digests and other sources. All these research skills are integrated within written assignments.
