Hi, my name Desiree Rushing and I am a registered nurse who is expected to graduate with a Bachelors in Nursing the Fall 2018 semester. I came into nursing because I felt there were attributes that I could contribute to the field being that I have a creative spirit and generally like to see people do well. When I came into this field 5 years ago I had no idea that there was more to nursing than giving medications, following procedures, and staying by the patient’s side through thick and thin. I have learned a great deal about being open to diversity, cultural integrity, and continuing education for improved practice. My idea of the health system now is being able to revolutionize best practices and change the way people perceive health care. Nursing is about being selfless and offering guidance through self-reflection and motivational interviews. It allows you to reflect on some of the things that makes you independant and what qualities you can bring into the healthcare system. The qualities that I possess are being self-motivated, always looking for ways to improve self, being open to diversity in culture and race, and having an optimistic view in life. I feel nursing can benefit from these attributes and advance in practice by employing self-directed, motivated individuals who see potential in others when they fail to see it in themselves.
