Welcome!

Hi, my name Desiree Rushing and I am a registered nurse who is expected to graduate with a Bachelors in Nursing in the Fall 2018 semester. I came into nursing because I felt there were attributes that I could contribute to the field being that I have a creative spirit and generally like to see people do well. When I came into this field 5 years ago I had no idea that there was more to nursing than giving medications, following procedures, and staying by the patient’s side through thick and thin. I have learned a great deal about being open to diversity, cultural integrity, and continuing education for public advocacy. My idea of the health system now is being able to revolutionize best practices and change the way people perceive health care. Nursing is about being selfless and offering guidance through self-reflection and personal growth. It allows you to reflect on some of the things that makes you altruistic and how you can innovate others to be holistically well. The qualities that I bring into nursing are being self-motivated, always looking for ways to improve self, being open to diversity of culture and race, and having an optimistic view in life. I feel nursing can benefit from these attributes and advance its practice by employing self-directed, motivated individuals who can see potential in others when they fail to see it in themselves.
