Major Program of Study

I am passionate about developing data-driven technical solutions for eliminating barriers to peace. Over the course of more than a decade in the U.S. Army and after working in conflict zones in South East Asia, North Africa, and the Middle East I see pressing demand for technical platforms to improve message delivery and break through societal constructs preventing reconciliation.

Between (and in some cases during) projects, you can find me bicycling, backpacking, cooking, or tinkering in the garage and on the keyboard.

My Courses

PHYS 1441

PHYS 1441

This is the first of a three-semester sequence of calculus-based physics course that is the foundation to further studies in engineering and technology. The first semester introduces students to concepts and principles of classical mechanics and thermodynamics. Topics include kinematics, Newton’s laws of motion and universal gravitation, work and energy, rotational motion, vibrations, fluids, heat and laws of thermodynamics. Calculus and vector methods are used throughout the course. Computer-based laboratory component of the course illustrates and supplements the lecture material.

Films from Literature ENG 2400, Fall 2021 OL 0550

Films from Literature ENG 2400, Fall 2021 OL 0550

This is a course comparing motion pictures to their literary source stories. We will examine how filmmakers translate existing stories into new versions and the “language” filmmakers use beyond the written word. ENG 2400-OL48 (27092) “Fridays 11:30 – 2:00” asynchronous–we do not actually “meet” at that specific hour This course will allow students to examine the relationship between film and their literary sources. Through classroom discussions and out-of-class assignments, students will analyze classic and contemporary literary texts and their cinematic versions. Students will examine the relationship between film and literature, with specific focus on the techniques used in fiction, drama and film and the influences of censorship and society. Students will focus on the similarities and differences of literary works adapted into films.
