This drawing course introduces basic concepts, tools, techniques and the role of drawing in design, illustration, animation and games. The course will also cover projection systems, plans, elevations, sections, oblique, isometric, one-point perspective and two-point perspective views.
This course is a practical introduction to the field of illustration. Focus will be places on
process work and professional practices, presented within contemporary and historical
context. Course includes projects and lectures in a variety of illustration genres including:
product design and advertising, storyboard, book illustration, editorial illustration, and
institutional illustration. A variety of materials will be introduced through lectures and
demonstrations for use on assignments such as: pencil, pen and ink, brush, colored pencil,
brush and paint, and collage. Critical concepts such as: Conceptual Development, Working
on Assignment, Composition, Contrast, Value, Point of View, and Color theory will be
introduced.
An advanced course in effective technical writing techniques, including
traditional technical writing forms and world wide web communication. This course will have students use electronic media such as internet, presentation, and graphics programs to communicate technical and scientific information to a variety of audiences via written and oral presentations. Students will also analyze readings in science and technology, study technical writing models, and practice collaborative research and presentation. Building on previous writing courses, this course will reinforce clarity of thinking and expression in effective and correct English.
Development of each student’s strategy for entering the design profession. Cumulative work will be critiqued by faculty and professional advisers. Students edit and re ne their portfolios to meet professional standards and will add materials as needed. The development of individual promotional pieces, resume writing, job search and interviewing skills will be emphasized.
Principles of three-dimensional design. Course covers an analysis of form and space.
Topics include: hollow forms both geometric and organic; architectonic organization of space; light and shadow; geometric solids; the modular unit; form and structure in nature; linear forms with membranes; movement. Applications to packaging, architecture, sculpture and environmental design and graphics. Materials and inherent properties governing their use in form and space.
