This is the introductory course in American Government, with the main focus on the national level but some attention to state and local levels as well. This OpenLab site contains course materials as well as links to news sites and a discussion board to exchange ideas. Internship in Communication Design Assignment to field work/study situations of approximately eighteen plus hours per week at a graphic arts-related internship site approved by the department internship director. Sites may be in areas such as advertising, printing, corporate communications or publishing. Students keep a log/journal to be shared in group seminars/discussions. Supervision is by faculty and by the job supervisor. Students will be required to keep a learning journal of their internship in the form of a blog using Open Lab.

This writing course is designed to strengthen the student’s skills as a writer by dissecting writings and readings, analyzing and composing essays, including outline, revision and proofreading. We will address all the skills required to successfully complete the CATW writing assessment examination, as well as expose students to the fundamental principles of expository writing such as development and organization, grammar and mechanics, vocabulary and precision of language that emphasize essay unity and clarity. Approximately 5-9 compositions are required, including practice CATW essay questions. Students will demonstrate the ability to present informed perspectives, articulate and support complex ideas, investigate and critique arguments and sustain focused and coherent discussions.

Vector-based animation and interactivity are important presentation tools for engaging the user. The goal of this course is to teach the development of time-based animation skills. It will 232 introduce the concepts of the timeline and vector art for use on the World Wide Web using software such as Flash. This course is a prerequisite for the Interactive Art Direction and Interactive Interface Design courses.

COMD3503 Fall2018 Topics in Graphic Design

Explores the role of graphic designer in contemporary visual communications with related design assignments and research. Graphic design trends; the impact of computer technology; examination of the work of major 20th century designers; global graphics; the ongoing dialogue between advertising and graphic design. A large emphasis will be placed on awareness of the design world by observing the principles of design in our community: books, publications, web sources, museums and graphic art organizations.
