EN­G2730 Pro­fes­sional Edit­ing and Re­vis­ing, Spring 2023

Stu­dents will learn to iden­tify au­di­ences and choose ap­pro­pri­ate lan­guage, tone, and style in order to write, edit, and re­vise a va­ri­ety of com­mu­niqués in var­i­ous work­place sce­nar­ios. Re­vi­sion doc­u­ments may be in­ter­nally cre­ated or ex­ter­nally ap­pro­pri­ated, de­pend­ing on the in­struc­tor’s dis­cre­tion. In­struc­tion in the pro­to­cols of re­vis­ing, edit­ing, proof­read­ing, and as­so­ci­ated tasks. An em­pha­sis on the abil­ity to re­think and adapt to ever-pre­sent writ­ing ex­i­gen­cies.

EN­G4900, SP2024

ENG 4900 is the PTW pro­gram’s cap­stone ex­pe­ri­ence wherein stu­dents com­plete a 120-hour in­tern­ship. Class ac­tiv­i­ties pro­vide an op­por­tu­nity for dis­cus­sions and e-port­fo­lio de­vel­op­ment to en­rich the learn­ing ex­pe­ri­ence. Stu­dents write weekly sta­tus re­ports, and su­per­vi­sion is by both the fac­ulty and the job su­per­vi­sor.

ENG 4700, Fall 2023

ENG 4700, “Spe­cial Top­ics in PTW,” ex­plores the real-world tech­ni­cal and col­lab­o­ra­tive skills needed for suc­cess in the pro­fes­sional and tech­ni­cal writ­ing work­place. It is an ad­vanced course in the­o­ries and prac­tice of com­mu­ni­ca­tion, es­pe­cially for new media. This it­er­a­tion of ENG 4700 will use the for­ma­tion of a PTW Stu­dent Club to sim­u­late work sit­u­a­tions and cre­ate media ar­ti­facts that can be fea­tured in a pro­fes­sional port­fo­lio.

EN­GL2720 Writ­ing with New Media, Spring 2023

This is Pro­fes­sor Shauna Chung’s course site for ENG 2720, “Writ­ing with New Media.” In this class, stu­dents will learn how to lever­age the af­for­dances and con­straints of new media through crit­i­cal analy­sis of texts and on­line phe­nom­ena, hands-on cre­ative pro­duc­tion, and col­lab­o­ra­tive re­search pro­jects. Stu­dents will also use this Open­Lab site to share their work and de­velop an on­line pres­ence through­out the se­mes­ter.

This the­ory and prac­tice-based course pro­vides a the­o­ret­i­cal overview of the con­cepts and prac­tices of in­for­ma­tion ar­chi­tec­ture: or­ga­ni­za­tion, la­bel­ing, nav­i­ga­tion, search, and meta­data. Stu­dents de­velop prac­ti­cal skills through the study of hu­man-com­puter in­ter­ac­tion.

Gender & Sexuality Studies Minor

Gen­der & Sex­u­al­ity Stud­ies Minor

Gen­der & Sex­u­al­ity Stud­ies is an in­ter­dis­ci­pli­nary Minor that ex­plores is­sues of gen­der and sex­u­al­ity from var­i­ous per­spec­tives. It cur­rently in­cludes courses in Eng­lish, Human Ser­vices, So­cial Sci­ence, and African Amer­i­can Stud­ies, and will con­tinue to grow to in­clude even more dis­ci­plines. Stu­dents can take courses that focus on hu­man­ity, sex­u­al­ity and sex­ual ori­en­ta­tion, stud­ies in gen­der iden­tity/roles, rep­re­sen­ta­tions of gen­ders in lit­er­a­ture and film, among other course themes. All courses are open-ended; as such, the course syl­labi and themes may vary from year to year. Many Gen­der & Sex­u­al­ity Stud­ies courses at City Tech are Path­ways cer­ti­fied and can sat­isfy Writ­ing In­ten­sive and In­ter­dis­ci­pli­nary Bac­calau­re­ate De­gree re­quire­ments for grad­u­a­tion.
