Ammar Krcic’s Profile
Hello! My name is Ammar Krcić and I am currently a student in New York City College of Technology in the Communication Design major.
My interest in graphics design started when I was midway in my high school career. The high school I attended was The Cinema High School for Filmmaking, the first ever high school in the United States to teach filmmaking for 4 years. Many asked why I just didn’t continue with filmmaking if I love it so much, my response was that I’ve learned almost everything I need to know about filmmaking and what I would love to learn even further is graphics design.
While I attended high school, a friend of mine was working on a personal project of his on photoshop, manipulating a certain image. I found it very interesting so I asked him if he could show me a few things in design and he gladly did. As soon as I learned those few things, I jumped into learning graphics design. I went on youtube to learn how to manipulate images, to make illusions, etc. and I continue to do so to learn more things. After learning a lot about design on the Adobe programs, I helped my father on his web magazine, Bosnjaci.net (Bosniaks.net, the English version) with projects that vary from different kinds of materials that are on his websites and because I love it so much I continue to help him. Doing so, I was able to help my father learn a few tricks on photoshop and he really loved it.
During the summer, I applied for an internship at CAI (what used to be known as, Cicatelli Associates Inc.) for the Communications Department and was accepted to work there. Naturally, I was elated because I was able to get some experience in the field while I was attending college so that I can put what I’ve learned in the job in my classes. Since working in the field for a few months, I have a sense of what should be expected of myself when I get into the industry after college.
My goal is to become a successful designer in the field and to continue learning even more programs and steps into design to build my resume, to improve my experience in the field so that I can be even more ready for the industry.
My Courses
This course introduces students to core concepts in the media field including color theory, design and production terminology, reproduction processes, file formats and substrates. During the semester, students will complete three pages of their own ePortfolio web site, complete a print design project and one video project. Lectures will provide students with a historical perspective of the media field as well as discussing current practices and future trends.
Three Dimensional Design COMD #3292 D222
Principles of three-dimensional design. Course covers an analysis of form and space. Topics include: hollow forms both geometric and organic; architectonic organization of space; light and shadow; geometric solids; the modular unit; form and structure in nature; linear forms with membranes; movement. Applications to packaging, architecture, sculpture and environmental design and graphics. Materials and inherent properties governing their use in form and space.
A journey, an adventure, a path for creative thinkers, graphic designers to take to be prepared for real-world situations, regarding production print, printing and the re-birth of the printing trades.
COMD4900 OL92 1476 Internship Summer2020
Internship in Communication Design (Summer Intensive) Assignment to field work/study situations of approximately eight to 20 plus hours per week at a graphic arts-related internship site approved by the department internship director. Sites may be in areas such as advertising, printing, corporate communications or publishing. Students keep a log/journal to be shared in group seminars/discussions. Supervision is by faculty and by the job supervisor. Students will be required to keep a learning journal of their internship in the form of a blog using Open Lab.
COMD3504 Communication Design Theory, Spring 2019
This course will offer an in-depth introduction to communication design theory, examining theoretical perspectives of design practice within the larger discourse of design and visual culture. Communication models, the nature of representation, the dimensions of context and semiotics will be explored through critical readings from key documents written between the early decades of the twentieth century and the present.
