E-portfolio Document #1 – Lorem Ipsum Template
We were given the scenario, Old Navy Taken to School where it details how Old Navy made a mistake by misprinting many college t-shirts with a grammatical error, there was a missing apostrophe. We had to imagine that we’re interning for the Vice President of Corporate Communications at Old Navy and they have already made a deal with National Collegiate Athletics Association to carry the prints of our apparel. Unfortunately, the Visual Marketing Director signed off on the on the image proofs without noticing the error.
The VP of Old Navy asked us to send her a boilerplate crisis letter. But the office doesn’t have any access to them and her assistant is out. It is up to us to create one for her and we wouldn’t want to disappoint her.

E-portfolio Document #2 – Authority Memo
I wrote up a authority memo using the “you attitude”. The “you attitude” is one of who you perceive yourself to be in the picture of our life. This is a writing style that places the reader’s interests in your own writing. It’s based on a principle that the readers are more concerned about their own needs rather than yours. The original letter was written by CEO, Edward “Tiger Mike” Davis. The letter was very rude, demanding and inappropriate not to mention it lacked any professionalism. It had to be changed in regards of format and tone and be expressed more professionally. Below you will see that I rewrote the letter in a more effective tone and the content was successful. I have done this by using the goodwill method in reminding that the employees interests are the company’s interests, as well.
E-portfolio Document #3 – Informative Letter
I wrote a reply letter to a customer complaint. It was an informative letter. Avis Budget Group came up with a new automated self-service calling center. Mr.Theopolis, a very loyal and important customer felt that the new automated self-service calling center has caused Avis Budget Group to lose their special quality. This letter approaches the problem using the goodwill method, as well as informing Mr. Theopolis the benefits of the new service. The letter goes straight to business, it can be used a template for other customer complaints/problems. Check it out below:
E-portfolio Document #4 – Negative Message
This ‘negative message’ is a memo that breaks the bad news to the employees. The memo informs the employees that there will no longer be extra payments for part time workers. This actually happens a lot in the real world, and one should always know how to address such situations in an appropriate way instead of just attacking.
E-portfolio Document #5 – Persuasive Message
Since I am a Law and Paralegal Studies major, I decided to construct a persuasive letter to law firms to convince them to contact the Director of Internship Opportunities at City Tech and become a partner with the school’s internship program. However, I tried something different. Instead of being a student trying to persuade the law firms, I thought I would actually write the letter as the actual director. The challenging part in this is the act of persuasion, persuading one to do something for you. You have to just just the right words and just the right tone!
E-portfolio Document #6 – Short Report
I wrote a short report to incoming City Tech students. The report is information about City Tech and the Law and Paralegal Studies Program. The type of report structure I have chosen is the informative and closure report structure. An informative and closure report summarizes completed work or research that doesn’t result in action or recommendation. I felt this structure would be most appropriate because it focuses on the problem and possible solutions.
E-portfolio Document #7 – Student’s Choice
I chose create a collections letter, because since I am majoring in Law and Paralegal Studies, I will be handling and writing collection letters. The scenario I used in this letter is that a client who has signed a retainer agreement owes the law firm money. The letter is to inform the client the amount due by a certain set date.
