What is a Course Hub?

Welcome! This website, the MAT 1375 Course Hub, is a central location for information and resources related to MAT 1375 Precalculus. Whether you are a student in the course or a faculty member teaching it, we hope you will find useful material here.

How is this site different from my own section on OpenLab or Blackboard?

This is a department-wide site with general resources for everyone taking the course. You can use it as a reference or for support, but it is not the right place to leave messages for your professor or classmates. Your professor can let you know how to find your section online on OpenLab or Blackboard.

Resources for students

You can access all of these resources by clicking the links below, or using the menus at the top of the page.

Course Outline. The course outline is the department’s “official master plan” for the course – it lists the textbook, the number of credits, any courses that you must complete before taking the course (prerequisites), what to pics will be covered each day, and the learning outcomes. One this page you will find a link to the course outline for the course, as well as the course description that appears in the college catalog.

Textbook. Information about the textbook for the course.

Slides. Here you will find slides for each lessons of the class. If you want to read up on the topics of a class and see some worked out exercises, this a great place to go!

Video Resources. Stuck on a topic? Already looked at the online lesson? You can find additional videos for most topics here, including many examples worked out in full, created or selected by City Tech faculty.

WeBWorK. Need help with WeBWorK? Whether you are having trouble accessing your course, or you are stuck on a problem in the homework, this page has resources to help.

Tutoring. Need some individual help? Learn about free tutoring options provided by the college.

Review. Preparing for a test, or for the final exam? Take a look here for review materials.

Resources for faculty

WeBWorK – Faculty Resources. How do I add a student to my WeBWorK section? How can I create a quiz in WeBWorK? Etc.

Slides (LaTeX Source Files) – Faculty Resources.  The LaTeX source code for the slides can be downloaded here. Customize the slides to include or remove any exercise, statement, or explanation. Etc.

Training and Support. Includes more general (non-WeBWorK) topics like: How can I get started on the OpenLab using pre-built Model Courses? How do I create a discussion board in my course? How do I collect student work using DropBox? Etc.

This site, the MAT 1375 Course Hub, was initially developed in Summer 2020, as part of the OpenLab Model Course Initiative.

The WeBWorK assignments were created by Andrew Parker. The slides were created by Thomas Tradler. The lessons were created by Jonas Reitz, relying heavily on the textbook by Thomas Tradler and Holly Carley: approximately the first half of the course material features videos created by Irania Vazquez; the remaining material features videos created by Jonas Reitz.

Except where otherwise noted, images used in the lessons are taken from the textbook or generated using the online calculator Desmos.
