In the mentor text, “Americans Bought Abondened $1 Homes in Italy- Was It Worth It?”, the into hooks the audience by providing viewers with a very general idea of purchasing $1 homes in Italy but showing the poor conditions that the homes are in. She asks the viewers, ” How much does it really cost to buy a 1 euro house in Italy?” This question hooks the audience to want to answer this question and see what costs people really have to make afterwards. This video essay incorporates research through experiences and personal testaments of those who actually purchased the $1 euro homes. The video uses these personal experiences to show the costs and renovations that people had to make to these homes in order for them to be livable. I noticed that this video essay incorporates storytelling by narrating who the homebuyers were and from which area in Italy they purchased from. The narrating in this video gave concrete and broad details about the people who decided to purchase homes for a dollar. The video does include visuals such as subheads of the names and ages of the people who provided their experiences and also a clear layout of the expenses that were made for each home on the screen. I noticed that the video had classical music playing in the background to give the audience a better feel of scenery which is Italy. The voice over of the narrator gave clarification of anything that was explained by the people being interviewed. This video is structured in an organized manner starting with, an introduction with a brief idea of purchasing $1 homes in Italy and questioning the audience how much it would really cost. Then, the video provides the personal experiences of 5 individuals who purchased their $1 homes and what their expenses were. Finally, the video is concluded by having the homeowners explain some of the challenges they faced when purchasing their homes. This video is 18 minutes long and I believe the primary audience are U.S citizens that are retiring and are planning on moving out of the country because the people who are in the video are all U.S citizens who decided to buy properties and move out of the country for economic benefit. The video comes to an end by providing viewers with the cons of purchasing $1 homes in Italy. The creators message is that purchasing $1 homes comes with investing, time consumption and creativity. I will emulate the outline that the creator used by providing personal experiences of people who have dealt with procrastination and towards the end of my video I will also incorporate how many individuals have changed their bad habits and also how they learned to deal with procrastination.
