Part 2 Summary
In the article, ‘Schools Are Killing Curiosity’: Why We Need to Stop Telling Children to Shut up and Learn” by Wendy Berliner, she states that the education system kills the kids’ curiosity and makes them perform in a least effective way. Wendy Berliner says that students who ask questions based on their curiosity perform better then others. Berliner uses studies to support her claim and adds how teachers focus more on behavior than answering questions. In a research done by Susan Engel, it mentions how younger children don’t really ask questions. It got worse when she noticed that as they grew, the students stopped asking questions at all. Berliner also mentions how when a student tried to ask a question, their teacher stopped and said it was time to learn. Although some teachers do take their time to answer questions, it’s really difficult for others to follow their students’ curiosity.
