- The writer used self dialogue to demonstrate her emotions during the time of her scene. This allows readers to envision her character and emotions at the time. It gives much greater insight to the point she is trying to get across during her narrative.
- The writer also incorporates the specific time that something happened very frequently as she writes about her first day of school. I think this is a great way to paint the day for the readers to really understand how her day went by.
- I believe that her choice of including Collin Powell as an example for her narrative was a perfect way to explain the way basketball saved her academically and personally just like the ROTC did for Collin Powell.
