Introductions-Davina

My name is Davina Moore and I am a Health Science Major. I am born and raised in New York, but have lived in North Carolina for a few years. I came back to New York to pursue studies and to be around family. I have traveled all over the United States. The only states I have not traveled to is Hawaii and Alaska. My hobbies include reading, cooking, traveling and playing video games.

My daughter and I

I have a two year old daughter named Elina. She is the most important person in my life. She is also the main reason why I am pursuing a college degree. I want to give her the world as well as better myself.

I like playing sports and I used to be on my school’s Volleyball team. My nickname used to be Thunder because when I served the ball, the force of the hit would echo around the court. In my spare time I am currently working on writing a fantasy novel about supernatural beings. I have only three chapters written so far as I don’t have a lot of free time to write. I hope this class can give me insight on how to become a better writer through the materials and coursework we will be doing. I look forward to getting to know my classmates as well as my professor during this semester.

  1. So glad to get to know you Davina! You are the first student to post the Introduction HW and you figured it out!

I love the picture of your daughter Elina. I see you are juggling motherhood and studies and life — WOW! Motherhood is a lifechanging event and one that makes you grow in so many ways. Taking on the challenge of college career as a mother is a difficult journey. My own mother pursued a nursing degree when my youngest sister was 3 years old! My sister remembers all the times she worked on coloring books while my mom studied her medical books. I applaud you!

    1. Nice to meet you Davina! Best of luck on your novel, I hope everything goes well with you and your daughter in the future!!!Your daughter is so cute you guys look alike!.

  2. Your daughter is so cute!!I love that you’re writing your own novel and I would definitely be interested in reading it when you publish. I watch shows and movies with supernatural beings all the time especially because one of my favorite shows is called The Vampire Diaries. It was nice meeting you.

    1. Hey Davina, I found you very optimistic and unique based on your experiences of traveling all around the United States. It’s a dream, girl! Also, I’m glad that you are working on writing a fantasy novel. I hope you get the chance to complete and become a great Author in the future. Can’t wait to read and hopefully, become a fan of your novels because I also share the interest of reading books. The fact you’re a mother of two-year-old daughter. In my perspective, I find that life challenging decision to carry on with motherhood along with being a great version of yourself. I wish you best of luck and hope you have a successful future with your daughter.

I have a question for you. what’s the best role model you would like your daughter to carry on from you?

      1. Thank you for your kind words. I think there are many role models that I would like my daughter to inspire from. I would never want her to be exactly like them but, I think growing up, it’s normal for you to have similarities to those who have raised you as well as it’s normal for you to be different. I was pretty much the opposite of my Mother growing up and we definitely clashed a lot when I was younger. Having a daughter of my own has made me realized I am a lot like her than I thought. I truly think that my daughter has opened up my eyes, in seeing who I really am. I hope that when she gets to be my age that she sees herself as her own role model. Navigating life in her own way, although I will be there if she needs guidance. I would like her to be her true authentic self and it’s ok if we don’t always see eye to eye. As long as she knows that I will always be there for her and that she has family every step of the way, I will be happy with that.

        1. Wow, that’s an interesting reply. I believe that we grow up being completely different from our parents and it’s not a bad thing. As humans we all influence life differently. I see that you’re really hardworking and supportive mom. 🙂

  3. Nice to meet you Davina. I love how we have something in common which is volleyball. Volleyball for me is an important sport in my like. Your daughter is so beautiful and i love how she encouraged you to pursue a college degree, i know she will be very proud of you. Best of luck in your novel, i know everything is going to go well. Cant wait to read your novel. What do you love cooking the most?

    1. Nice to meet you as well. As for cooking, I think whatever my daughter likes the most is what I love to cook. Right now it’s anything pasta. Fettucine Alfredo, Baked Ziti, Spinach Pasta, Lasagna are a few of her favorites that I cook for her. She has a hearty appetite so it’s the best feeling when she finishes her plate of food. I also like experimenting with new recipes, she’s my taste tester so I know if the food is good or not.

  4. Excited to meet you Davina, very cute daughter you have, it’s inspiring how you can have such a challenge and take many more you are the pure definition of iron skin. Keep up with the novel wish you luck and success and when you become a famous and respected author don’t forget our small but Intelligent class!!

  5. Congrats Davina, It can be challenging sometimes to have full responsibility on a wonderful baby but it motivates us to keep pushing forward and I have to say that your fantasy novel about supernatural beings sounds very interesting and I would like to read it once it’s finished.
