In the article “schools are killing curiosity,” Wendy Berliner goes in depth about how children lose their curiosity throughout there time spent in school. Berliner talks about a research done in 2007 where the researchers found that children’s aged from 14 month to five years old asked an average of 107 questions per hour. Later down in the article Berliner mentions another research shows that as children’s got older they stopped asking questions all together. Berliner also mentions a nursery school in Bristol. Where the schools removed all types of toys for the children, and replaced them with cardboard boxes, tin cans, pots and pans, old phones, kettles, computer and pluming supplies. The outcome of this experiment was actually positive. The children started playing with those items much as they could. Most of them didn’t even ask for the toys back. Instead of shutting children thoughts down from a young age, they should be able to freely express their mind. Resulting in more curious and thought full minds.
