In analyzing Fan Zhou’s Education Narrative, here are three writerly techniques that I will incorporate into my own writing:
1. Use of Personal Experience to Illustrate a Broader Point: Fan Zhou effectively uses personal stories, such as his experience in an ESL class, to relate to larger issues like stereotypes and language barriers. This helps connect the reader emotionally to his narrative, and I plan to incorporate my personal experiences similarly to create a deeper connection with readers.
2. Dialogue to Enhance Storytelling: The dialogue between Fan Zhou and his uncle, as well as between other characters, brings life to the narrative. It also provides insight into the emotions and cultural challenges the writer faced. I will use dialogue to make my narrative more dynamic and engaging.
3. Connection to External Texts: Fan Zhou skillfully connects his personal experience to Malcolm X’s “Prison Studies.” This linkage provides depth to his narrative and shows how his own journey is part of a larger conversation. I will strive to incorporate references to texts or concepts that relate to my personal story, adding depth to my writing.
