My research question is how music affects people’s health. This topic interests me because music will always be a part of my life. I love music and I think it does many things for me. It can help me get work done, it helps with anxiety and boosts my mood. I already know that music can affect mood as well as anxiety. Music can build a strong influence on your life whether it affects your mood, spending habits or style of choice. Music can even help with learning. Some points I plan to explore and find out more about are how exactly does music affect mood. If music has an affect on memory. as well as if music actually does have an effect on anxiety.

Part 2 Summary:

In the article “You Asked: is listening to music good for your health”, Markham Heid shows the  many ways music can help improve your health. Heid goes over how music can fend off depression, improve blood flow, and lower levels of cortisol a stress related hormone. Heid uses studies from Kim Innea,  professor of epidemiology. Her study shows how music and meditation can have similar benefits. They both help one’s ability to sleep and improve one’s mood. Despite the benefits that music can have on your health, it can have drawbacks. Heid explains how music can have the opposite effect and promote anxiety and stress. He quotes Joanne Loewy, director of the louis Armstrong center for music and medicine “some of our data shows that putting on any old music can actually induce a stressful response.” showing that music can emerge negative emotions if you put a random song expecting it to help you.

The genre of this article is a feature piece. Heids writing style is factual with an informative tone. The rhetorical appeal of logos is used most because Heid uses facts and researched information to convey his points. The author’s primary audience is anyone who can benefit from music. The message the author wants people to take away is that music can be very beneficial to one’s mental health and physical health. The author is Markham Heid he is credible because he has published to many sources like time, men’s health and everyday health he also received reporting awards. Time is a credible source because it has the sixth highest trust rating out of 13 polls. This information is current because many people suffer from mental health and can benefit from music.
